Sugar crisis looms again, as conflict rages on

KARACHI: There is valid apprehension that sugar may go scarce in the market, if the sugar mill owners do not sell sugar to wholesale traders at the government-appointed tariffs, Geo News reported Saturday.

Talking to Geo News, Karachi Wholesalers and Grocers Association Chairman Anis Majid said sugar mills owners are giving out sugar to the wholesale traders at higher price than the government's specified tariff.

According to market sources, sugar is being sold at Rs46 to Rs47/kg in the wholesale market; while, the commodity is being sold at Rs50 to Rs52/kg at retail market instead of government's price of Rs47/kg.
